Project manager / Producer

We're looking for an organised and up-beat person to manage the day-to-day operations of our increasingly busy Edinburgh office.

Key responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinating project teams and keeping them on track.
  • Admin tasks, including financial tasks (e.g. invoices).
  • Communicating with clients.
  • Possibly some business development, depending on your skills.
  • Helping make our office a great place to work.

There will be opportunities for personal & career development as the job grows with the company.

This is not a technical role, but you must be comfortable around technical matters, and able to play the role of coordinater in software discussions. I.e. you don't need to know the jargon, but you mustn't be put off by it.

Requirements: No formal requirements. You must be intelligent, organised & self-motivated with good communication skills.

Hours: From 1 day a week upto full-time depending on the person.

QA & Test Engineer

A positive-minded & reliable person who will:

  • Manage support needs for customers and the internal team.
  • Triage bug reports and carry out debugging.
  • Develop test procedures.
  • Develop the product's user documentation & support forum.
  • Contribute to product development.

You should be aged whatever with a passionate attitude to your work. Good communication skills and coding knowledge are essential. JUnit, Java, Javascript, Selenium and Linux experience are a plus.

This job involves a high level of responsibility working within a small talented team. The right candidate will have the chance to shape the job, and will be at the heart of an exciting company.

Part-time Associate

Being an associate means access to exciting, varied and well-paid work - applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and mathematics to real-world problems. Associate projects are typically short and focused, and range from a few days to a few months. They can include research, programming, or providing advice. The Winterwell network of associates offers flexibility: You are free to take or refuse projects as you please. It is aimed at experts with their own career path.

Who we're looking for

Winterwell welcomes applications for associate status from exceptional individuals who:

  • Enjoy programming, enough to do it for fun as well as a career.
  • Have a first-rate academic track record (or industrial experience) in a suitable subject: Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or Physics. You need not have a Ph.D., but you must be good enough to do one.
  • Are highly motivated with a flexible approach to problem solving.
  • Can grasp new topics and techniques in mathematics and computing at short notice.
  • Have real-world experience of developing sofware as part of a team. This need not be commercial experience, but it must be impressive.
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Have great personal and intellectual integrity.
  • Are fluent in Java and at least one other language, preferably non-imperative.
